CEREC® Uses 3D Technology For Same Day Crowns

Crowns, inlays, and Onlays on back molars had to be metal-based in the past, but no longer! The CERamic REConstruction or CEREC® system allows Dr. Johnny Shanks to create beautiful tooth-colored crowns for front and back teeth that match the color and appearance of the rest of your teeth, are biocompatible and are esthetically ideal.

What Are Dental Crowns?

When it comes to repairing broken, misshapen, decayed, or compromised teeth, dental crowns made in Dr. Shanks’s office can be the perfect solution for bolstering tooth strength. They are also used for implants or to cap a tooth that has undergone a root canal.

Getting the usual crown in place requires two to three visits to the dental office, but with Northside Family Dentistry, the CEREC® crown process is simple. Dr. Johnny Shanks takes digital impressions with his CEREC® Primescan which processes the data using CEREC software. It creates a virtual design for restoration, and digitally forwards it to the CAD milling machine for creating a physical crown within minutes. The crown may be made from ceramic material (porcelain) or zirconia (man-made diamond) and can be installed immediately on the prepared tooth after completing the shade match and polishing process.

Reasons to Choose
A Dental Crown

When you come into our Crossville dental office for your consultation you’ll receive a full assessment and find out if crowns are right for you. Porcelain crowns are often indicated in the following cases: decayed teeth, broken or fractured teeth, large fillings, fractured fillings, teeth that need root canal surgery, cosmetic enhancement.

What Does Placing a Crown Involve?

When it comes time to place your crown, the tooth and adjacent gum are anesthetized. While the area is numb, Dr. Shanks will prepare the tooth, removing any decay and shaping the surface to facilitate the new crown. When these preparations are completed, the finished crown will be secured in place with permanent adhesive. Dr. Shanks will then carefully evaluate the spacing and bite.
