Dental Implants Expertise

Having personally restored thousands of implants, Dr. Shanks has the experience, skill, and artistic eye to restore your smile to full health and beauty. Modern dentistry provides a better solution to the problem of single or multiple-tooth loss: dental implants. Whether you receive one implant or several implants to affix a full-arch prosthesis, the result will be true replacements for your own teeth that let you eat, speak naturally, and confidently smile. When you get implant teeth from Dr. Johnny Shanks, no one will even know that they aren’t your natural teeth, unless you tell them.

What is a
Dental Implant?

Dental implants are a permanent, natural-looking solution to replace a missing tooth. By attaching a titanium post and connector directly to the jaw bone, the implant creates a sturdy base for the crown. Dental implants with Dr. Shanks are an excellent solution for those who want to improve their smiles while allowing the lifestyle you’re accustomed to – confidently smile, laugh, and eat what you want.

Implant Teeth
In A Day

Sometimes called “Immediate Function Implants”, the Teeth in a Day system allows you the ability to chew, speak, and smile with confidence the same day your dental implant is placed. After Dr. Shanks takes a 3D scan of your mouth, your implant procedure plan is customized. Dr. Shanks pinpoints the exact locations where implants need to be placed in order to optimally support your full-arch prosthesis. He’ll factor in spacing, bone quality, and the anatomical structure of your jaw to plan out your surgery. Today’s dental implants are made of titanium, which fuses to the bone and stimulates its growth. Implant-supported teeth look, function, and are maintained just like natural teeth.

Implant-Supported Dentures

Do you wear dentures or have missing or failing teeth? Traditional dentures are not attached to anything and simply rest on the gums. This means that the denture can get dislodged when chewing and often limits the realistic selection of food choices for the denture wearer.

Fortunately, dentures can be attached to implants to help improve their fit and greatly increase chewing ability. As an added benefit, the implants prevent the steady bone loss caused by traditional dentures. Dentures attached to implants give support to the cheeks and lips creating a more youthful appearance. Speaking, chewing, swallowing, and smiling are also improved due to the confidence that results from having the dentures firmly secured in the mouth.

3 Steps to Getting
Your New Tooth

Getting an implant isn’t as long a process as you think or as expensive or cutting edge. Dental implants have been in use since the 1970s but the technology for placing them has steadily been improving with the advent of 3D-guided dental surgery.

Step 1: Free Consultation

The first step of your treatment process is to complete consultation at Dr. Shanks’s Crossville office. He’ll let you know what you should expect based on your situation and receive a comprehensive evaluation, which includes digital 3D scans. In order to personalize your treatment, he’ll want to understand your smile goals. If you need any pre-implant procedures, we’ll determine if you’ll need a separate appointment or can have them completed on the day of your surgery. Dr. Shanks will then prepare the custom surgical guide that will ensure the accuracy and precision of your implant placement for optimal results.

Step 2: Surgery

There is nothing to worry about on the day of your dental implant surgery! We always first make sure you’re relaxed and comfortable. When you’re comfortable, we’ll surgically place a dental implant post into your jawbone using the custom guide Dr. Shanks produced at your consultation appointment. The implant procedure will be over in about an hour. We’ll have a temporary dental crown ready to attach to your implant if its primary stability is efficient. That means you’ll have a complete smile when you leave on the day of your appointment so you can smile with confidence!

Step 3: Restoration

During the healing phase, the implant post(s) will integrate with the natural bone, fusing into place like a tooth root. Dr. Johnny Shanks will monitor the progress of your healing to ensure your dental implant will provide long-term support for your final tooth. When this phase is complete, you’ll return to our office to receive your final restoration. This dental crown will be made from strong porcelain or ceramic material and color-matched to your existing teeth. Our goal is to provide you with a permanent new tooth that can’t be distinguished from the rest!
